Gary Albert, President & CEO Gary Albert has been immersed in the health and fitness club industry for the past fifteen years. He spent the first ten as a "club hopper" -- a member who joined and quit club after club, searching for just one to embrace his fitness needs and deliver on its promise of fitness success. By 1998, after founding and operating several businesses in customer-service-oriented sectors, Mr. Albert decided to merge his personal interests with his professional background. He founded ActivTrax and set out to revitalize members' customer service experience in the health and fitness club industry. As President of ActivTrax, Mr. Albert has since worked with numerous clubs nationwide, assisting them in streamlining their customer service operations, to yield higher member integration and longer-term retention. Mr. Albert can be reached at gary.albert@activtrax.com. Marc B. Kaplan, Chairman of the Board Marc B. Kaplan is the co-founder and Chairman of ActivTrax, LLC. Mr. Kaplan is a graduate of the University of Maryland and holds a C.P.A. in the same state. He spent five years with the international C.P.A. firm of Arthur Young (now merged into the firm of Ernst and Young) and nine years as the Chief Financial Officer of a financial institution and President of a company in the mortgage industry. After 14 years as a financial executive, Mr. Kaplan founded a small entrepreneurial company involved in the business of “Corporate Housing”. After several years of growth the company was taken public on the NASDAQ and later sold to Marriott International. Mr. Kaplan currently serves as a consultant to Marriott International. Aaron Schwartzbard, Chief Technology Officer Aaron Schwartzbard brings expertise both in technology and physiology to the development of the ActivTrax product. He received a degree in Cognitive Science, with a concentration in Computer Science, from the University of Virginia. Before joining ActivTrax, Mr. Schwartzbard held research positions studying computer learning and signal processing. His work spanned a range of interests, from the application of artificial neural networks for computer intrusion detection, to automated song recognition. As an athlete, Mr. Schwartzbard has a personal best marathon time of 2:33. He has completed dozens of marathons and ultramarathons (races as long as 100 miles). Tony Verde, PhD Dr. Verde earned his doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He spent 9 years as a full-time faculty at his alma mater before moving to the United States in 1989. Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Verde was employed in the private sector as the Director of The Graduate Hospital Sports Medicine Center in Wayne, PA. Following 8 years at the Sports Medicine Center he returned to the academic environment as the Chair of the Department of Sports Science at Cabrini College, where he is currently employed. Dr. Verde is actively involved with professional service to the field. He has served as the Area Representative for Abstract Review for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for the past 9 years. He has achieved FELLOWSHIP status with the ACSM and has served on the Executive Committee of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the ACSM. Dr. Verde is often an invited speaker regionally, nationally and internationally and has a portfolio of peer-reviewed publications. He has worked as a consultant to the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and several Olympic Teams. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the Department of Occupational Medicine at Visteon North Penn Electronics, STRIVE Enterprises Inc. and Soft Tissue Institute in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Verde can be reached at tony.verde@activtrax.com. Lewie Walton, Fitness Architect Lewie Walton is the primary architect behind ActivTrax's exercise routines and fitness logic. While a student at Old Dominion University, Mr. Walton served as a strength coach for the track & field and wrestling teams. After leaving Old Dominion Mr. Walton received a degree in Kinesiology from Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. Mr. Walton worked in the Rehabilitation Unit at Riverside Hospital with trauma patients. He worked with people of all ages who had been injured in accidents to rebuild and retrain their muscles. For the past 15 years, Mr. Walton has focused his efforts on personal training. In 1987, Mr. Walton opened, owned and operated Executives Fitness, a health club located in Rockville, MD. His goal with Executive Fitness was to create a club with a higher level of personal attention. In 1996, Mr. Walton founded Walton's Way, a revolutionary product that allowed him to train hundreds of individuals simultaneously. Mr. Walton holds several fitness certifications including an A.C.E. (American Council on Exercise), a N.H.C.A. (National Health Club Association) and a S.F.N. (School of Fitness/Nutrition).
